Department Head

Dr. Kevin R. Pond is an internationally recognized expert in animal nutrition and educator of university students and professionals in the animal agriculture and food industry. He grew up in rural Ithaca, New York and raised sheep, swine, and cattle to finance his education. He attended Cornell University receiving a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and Texas A&M University, receiving a Master of Science and Ph.D. in Nutrition. He served on the faculty of North Carolina State University for 13 years and was the Chair of Animal and Food Science at Texas Tech University for 14 years. He is currently Professor and Head of the Department of Animal Sciences at Colorado State University. He has conducted animal nutrition and sustainability research in the US, Southeast Asia, South America and Northern Africa. As a team member, he has been involved in food safety research in the US, Mexico and the Caribbean. He is co-author of the leading book used to teach animal nutrition and is widely published in the scientific literature. His wife and adult children are all involved in agriculture or food safety. Together, the family operates a Texas ranch that has been in the family for five generations.
