Two College of Agricultural Sciences faculty members have been named as 2024 Nutrien Scholars of Agricultural Sciences. The annual award honors the work of outstanding faculty members as a way to advance their teaching and research in alignment with the college’s strategic plan, which is generously supported by Nutrien. Jessica Prenni, an agricultural chemist and Professor in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, and Dana Hoag, an agricultural economist and Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics make up the fifth class of Nutrien Scholars.
Established in 2020, the Nutrien Distinguished Scholars Program honors the work of rising faculty in the College of Agricultural Sciences to support them in furthering their teaching and research.
“Dr. Prenni’s work on the Periodic Table of Food will have a global impact on how people evaluate and describe nutrients in food, which will lead to improvements in human health,” said Amy Charkwoski, Associate Dean for Research. “Dr. Hoag has made many contributions to the economics of diverse topics, from agrivoltaics to wolf introductions into Colorado. We are so pleased to have them at CSU.”
With Nutrien’s generous support and intellectual partnership, the College of Agricultural Sciences continues to mobilize around and invest in eight strategic focus areas of leadership and impact – regionally, nationally and globally – elevating CSU as a leader in developing a diverse, highly skilled agricultural workforce and boosting Nutrien’s ability to deliver industry-leading products.
“Dr. Prenni and Dr. Hoag both have exceptional research programs and through their research programs, both also play important roles in teaching and training students,” Charkowski said. “Honoring them as Nutrien Distinguished Scholars highlights the alignment of our goals with those of Nutrien as we work in partnership advance the future of agriculture and prepare the next generation of agricultural leaders.”
