More than 1,800 FFA students from across Colorado gathered at Colorado State University’s Fort Collins campus this week to compete in the Colorado FFA Career Development Events.

The two-day event, hosted by CSU’s College of Agricultural Sciences and coordinated by its agricultural education team, and faculty and staff throughout the College, brought together FFA members in grades 9 through 12 to showcase skills developed through classroom instruction and hands-on agricultural education.

Contests were held at several on- and off-campus locations, including the Nutrien Agricultural Sciences Building, the Agricultural Research, Development and Education Center, and the B.W. Pickett Arena. Events covered a wide range of topics, including agronomy, technology and mechanics, veterinary science, sales, livestock evaluation, and food science and technology.

Students were evaluated on their knowledge in the agriculture contest area, critical thinking, communication and teamwork abilities, all while upholding the values of fair competition and personal growth.

CSU has hosted the state-level Career Development Events since at least the 1960s.

“This event is a highlight for our College of Agricultural Sciences,” said Kellie Enns, Associate Dean for Student Success and Faculty Affairs. “We are always excited to bring students from all parts of Colorado, from the remote mountain communities to the far rural eastern plains, to students in urban front range, for them to show off their knowledge and skills. Regardless of their location, to see students’ enthusiasm for their events, and watch them excel and get recognized – it is just the best.”
