COUNCIL FOR HIGHER EDUCATION ACCREDITATION (CHEA) Public Information Policy

LAAB accredited programs are required to provide reliable information to the public.  Programs must report on accreditation status and performance.  This information is to help potential students make informed application decisions. (Guidelines)

1. student achievement as determined by the program
2. the cost (tuition and fees) for a full-time student for one academic year; estimated housing costs per year and average costs of books and materials per year
3. student retention and graduation rates, including the number of degrees produced each year, the percentage of master’s students graduating within 4 years, and/or the percentage of bachelor’s students graduating within 6 years (the years given are examples, programs can select time frames relevant to their circumstances)

Colorado State University offers a nationally accredited Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture (BSLA). The degree program is 4 years (plus a summer experience) in duration. The BSLA is accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB). Accredited programs in the United States and Canada can be reviewed here:

Student achievement as determined by the program

Faculty of the program aspire to academically prepare students for entry into professional practice of landscape architecture. The program is organized to address the core areas of the profession and the fundamental knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for students to become successful practitioners. Drawing, computers and methods for design and specification are integral traits of each landscape architecture course.

Within the first year after graduation, the most recent graduating class experienced about 65% employment in public or private landscape architectural practice. Additionally, about 10% continued in advanced study of landscape architecture, urban design or architecture.

Books and studio supplies vary by course offering. Ownership of a portable computer and appropriate software is strongly encouraged. Each student in the program has an on-campus studio desk and workspace and 24 hour access to the studio classrooms. The College of Ag. Sciences computing studio is also available – a 24 hour privilege for enrolled students – and is supported with current software applications, a large format scanner, large format plotter, and access to a university wide printing system.

 

Student retention and graduation rates

The program accepts about 30-35 students at the beginning of each cohort. At graduation, the retention rate is about 70% with graduating classes usually numbering around 20-25 students.
