GRA Position (M.S.) – Crop Nutritional Improvement
Position:
Graduate Research Assistant (M.S.), 0.5 time, in the lab of Dr. Davina Rhodes.
Position Description:
A graduate research assistantship (M.S.) is available for a project involving the development of molecular breeding resources for increased carotenoids in sorghum grain or potato. The research will involve laboratory and field studies that could include growing and harvesting high carotenoid varieties, evaluating carotenoid diversity using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), identifying genes responsible for carotenoid variation, or testing carotenoid bioavailability. The candidate will complete coursework necessary for a M.S. degree in Horticulture with a thesis topic related to sorghum or potato carotenoid biofortification.
Qualifications:
B.S degree in Horticulture, Biology, Genetics, Crop Science, or related discipline. Knowledge or experience in field work and lab work, including genome-wide association studies (GWAS), quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping, or HPLC are highly desirable, but not required, for this position. Demonstrated excellence in course work, good written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work as a team member are also required.
