Scott Carman is a registered landscape architect and assistant professor at Colorado State University, where he teaches courses in environmental analysis, landscape ecology and urban design, along with landscape architecture design studios. His research work sits at the confluence of geospatial technology, land use and social science, using geographic information systems to understand and improve the public realm at an urban scale. His past projects include assessments of urban agriculture typologies and opportunities in Denver and Lakewood, Colorado, as well as evaluations of the existing green infrastructure network in Fort Collins. Most recently, he has developed a state-wide geodatabase and web mapping application for Colorado that identifies, maps and assesses brightfields, which are contaminated lands that can be re-purposed for renewable energy generation. Recognized nationally as an expert in the application of geospatial technology to landscape architecture and urban planning, he has presented his research work at numerous conferences and published scholarly articles on the topic. Scott studied Environmental Horticulture at Cornell University for his undergraduate education and received his Master of Landscape Architecture degree from Harvard University.
