Careers & Internships

Careers

According to a recent survey, the climate change workforce supply cannot meet current demands.  While gaps currently exist, the need for experts in greenhouse gas (GHG) management and measurement in the coming years is expected to double. In fact, the report’s key findings were that while “Climate Change remains an emerging field” with new job opportunities characterized by fast career advancement, there is a lack of proper training in the field, which is currently happening through on-the-job experience without a targeted, underlying academic education.

Courses and internship opportunities in the Soils, Climate Change and Land Use Concentration will train students for careers in:

  • design, monitoring and verification of GHG offset projects
  • GHG management in private industries looking to meet regulatory or voluntary emission goals
  • research in universities, governments or non-profit organizations
  • development of policy and regulatory guidelines for GHG management
  • advising on climate-smart agriculture

Internships

In addition to targeted coursework, seniors in this program may apply for internships that will further train them for the climate change workforce.  Some examples of companies and organizations participating in this internship program include:

Camco Clean Energy, CE2 Capital Partners, ClimateCHECK, Conservation International, Delta Institute, Environmental Defense Fund, SunOne Solutions, Sustainable Food Lab, Terra Global Capital, Trees-Water-People, USDA-Natural Resource Conservation Service, Verified Carbon Standard
