Q&A with Bryan Braddy

What’s one thing people would be most surprised to learn about you?

People might be surprised to learn that I have been involved with extensive projects and/or based at several AES centers such as San Juan Basin Research Center(Hesperus), Southwestern Colorado Research Center(Yellowjacket), Orchard Mesa Research Center, Fruita Research Center, and two separate stints at Rogers Mesa Research Center.

What do you like most about your job?

What I like most about my job is the trust others place in me that gives me the freedom to perform daily, weekly, seasonally, and yearly functions in a way that best benefits the research centers, AES, and CSU.

What is your biggest achievement to date, personal or professional?

My biggest achievement to date is raising two happy, healthy, successful adult children.

Before working at CSU what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

I have been involved with agriculture my entire life. Some interesting ag jobs I have worked include raising of llamas, elk, fish, and exotic bovine species. I have worked for the president of the Cattlemen’s Association and on the Colorado Trail.  The most unusual though was working two seasons at a mink ranch in Western Colorado.

What has been your favorite project at Western Colorado Research Center?

I have been very fortunate to work on several great projects and with many fantastic researchers at CSU. One of my favorites however was evaluating hail damage on wine grapes.  We used a CO2 ‘canon’ and fired crushed ice at wine grape clusters.

Do you have a favorite quote?

I have several favorite quotes; I wish I had some of my own original ones! But my favorite is—

“Live in the precious now.  We are not here on yesterday’s heartbeat, or tomorrow’s…”

If you were stuck on an island, what 3 things would you bring?

If I were stuck on an island, the 3 things I would bring are:

-a cargo ship full of good craft beer,

-a solar powered desalinization plant,

-the Professor from Gilligan’s Island. That guy could make anything out of coconuts.

What did you want to be when growing up?

Depending on the day either Superman, a pirate, or a dinosaur. Pretty much the same as now…

What is your hidden talent?

My hidden talent is keeping my talents hidden-even from me…

Where is your favorite place to eat?

My favorite place to eat is on the deck of the family cabin in the San Juans-and it can be anything…
