Phosphorus Solubilization and Nitrogen Fixation by Pulse Crops

Project Collaborators

Antisar Afkairin and Jorge Vivanco

We are evaluating how and to what degree different pulse species (dry beans, peas, cowpeas, and tepary beans), market classes, and varieties solubilize soil P and alter the microbial community of the rhizosphere. In addition, we are applying P fertilizer and measuring how that influences the microbial community, specifically Rhizobium, and ultimately, how P additions impact N fixation.
