Welcome to the CSU Soil Judging Team<\/h2>\n

Soil judging is a hands-on educational experience that challenges undergraduate students to evaluate the physical and morphological properties of soils and interpret these findings for appropriate land-use recommendations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For students studying soil science, agronomy, or land management, soil judging provides an invaluable opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in the field, fostering both technical expertise and a deeper appreciation for the complexity and diversity of soils.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

CSU<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Hosts <\/span>the <\/span>2025 <\/span>Northwest <\/span>Regional <\/span>Collegiate <\/span>Soil Judging Competition<\/h2>\n

Colorado State University proudly hosted the 2025 Northwest Regional Collegiate Soil Judging Competition from<\/span> October 23\u201325<\/strong> on Colorado\u2019s Western Slope. The event welcomed approximately <\/span>50 participants<\/strong> and took place at <\/span>Talbott Farms, a 500-acre fruit orchard in Palisade, Colorado<\/strong> that produces peaches, pears, cherries, and grapes.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n

Located within the Grand Valley on the northern edge of the Colorado Plateau<\/strong> and at the base of the Book Cliffs and Grand Mesa, the venue offered an exceptional and dynamic setting for the contest.<\/p>\n
