Agricultural Biology Major

Entomology Concentration

Solve the world’s most difficult problems affecting food production and environmental conservation

Work with world-class faculty learning how to help solve the most difficult problems we face today in food production and environmental conservation.

The Agricultural Biology degree program offers an opportunity to learn how ecosystems function and how to protect them. You will share this experience with a cohort of students who will become your teammates in strengthening the ecosystems that we all depend on for food, fiber and ecosystem services.

The concentration in entomology focuses on the basic and applied science of insects and other arthropods such as ticks and mites. Students aid in building a more sustainable food system while improving and protecting the environment.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

  •  Skills and knowledge to solve problems related to plants, insects and microbes in natural and managed ecosystems

  • An understanding of social, economic and biophysical aspects of the management of biological problems in natural and managed ecosystems

  • How to describe, assess, analyze and synthesize what you learn in your coursework to create solutions for pests and beneficial species in natural and managed ecosystems

  • How to promote and practice inclusion to form effective teams that solve complex problems in natural and managed ecosystems

  • Effective communication with diverse audiences about sustainable pest and pathogen management in natural and managed ecosystems
