Dr. Jason Ahola teaches and conducts research at Colorado State University focused on the beef production industry. His courses include introductory Food Animal Science (ANEQ 101), the senior-level Beef Systems capstone, and additional undergraduate and graduate courses involving applied beef cattle and ranch management. Dr. Ahola also supervises the Colorado Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) Program and its state coordinator. He conducts applied research in collaboration with CSU Beef and Dairy Systems faculty on beef cattle management, BQA implementation, reproductive management, alternate beef production systems, as well as grazing strategies, animal welfare, and feed efficiency as they relate to beef cattle production. Dr. Ahola grew up on a small Hereford farm in rural northeastern Connecticut and received degrees from Pennsylvania State University (B.S.) and CSU (M.S., Ph.D.). Prior to joining CSU, he worked for the University of Idaho as a statewide Extension Beef Specialist, Leachman Cattle Company as director of sales, and the Red Angus Association of America as the Director of Marketing. Dr. Ahola lives in Wellington with his wife Sara and 2 young boys where they have horses and a small herd of cattle.
