Biography
Erika is a dedicated researcher and educator specializing in equine training and management, working under the guidance of Dr. Temple Grandin. Her research focuses on equine training, management practices, and the physiological-behavioral interactions of stress, aiming to bridge the gap between equine welfare and science-based management practices. With extensive hands-on experience in equine behavior analysis, stress monitoring, and developing individualized training plans, Erika emphasizes evidence-based approaches to understanding equine behavior and health while harmonizing industry standards with research advancements.
Passionate about education and mentorship, Erika is committed to fostering critical thinking, curiosity, and ethical practices in equine care. Her teaching philosophy incorporates Kolb’s experiential learning theory and Bloom’s taxonomy, encouraging students to apply theoretical knowledge in practical, real-world contexts.
Outside of academia, Erika enjoys working with her horses, tending to her livestock and garden, reading, leatherworking, baking, archery, and volunteering with local organizations. These pursuits reflect her lifelong dedication to animals, the outdoors, community, and education.
