Biography
Emma Hamilton is a Graduate Research Assistant in the Department of Animal Sciences at Colorado State University. She is currently pursuing her MS in Animal Science, with a focus in Livestock Behavior and Welfare, under the mentorship of Dr. Temple Grandin. Emma’s MS research is focused on evaluating the prevalence of hoof conformation issues, congestive heart failure, and liver abscesses in feedlot cattle, as well as the relationships that exist between these problems. Previously, Emma completed her BS in Animal Science, with a meat animal emphasis, at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls (UWRF). At UWRF, she was a member of the Animal Welfare Lab and completed undergraduate research focused on captive bolt euthanasia and pre-slaughter stunning for swine and yaks; Emma also assisted with projects related to captive bolt use for cattle and bison. Emma is passionate about completing research that will provide information on current issues in the livestock industry and communicating those results in a way that can positively impact producers and scientists.
