Biography
Luana Alvares is a PhD student and graduate assistant in the Department of Animal Sciences at Colorado State University. She is originally from Uberlândia, Minas Gerais, Brazil. She received a degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Federal University of Uberlândia in 2022 and completed a master’s in Animal Sciences at the University of Florida, where she focused on animal breeding and genetics.

Her research interests include the use of genomic tools and genetic improvement strategies to support livestock health, welfare, and productivity. She especially interested in connecting research with extension and applying science to real-world challenges in animal agriculture.

Outside of her studies, I enjoy traveling, spending time outdoors, and meeting people from different backgrounds.
