Skylar Houston was born and raised on a ranch in Weld County, Colo. Growing up, he was active in 4-H and FFA, showing market steers and breeding heifers at the Weld County Fair and National Western Stock Show. Houston graduated from Valley High School in Gilcrest and went on to graduate from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in sociology in 1990. As a graduate he worked in the paralegal field for Grant, McHerie, Haines and Crouse, and was involved in developing environmental regulations for feedlots.
Houston eventually went back to the family cattle operation, Aristocrat Angus Ranch, and participated in an historic venture to provide beef genetics to Ukraine. He has remained active in the cattle business, supplying quality Angus breeding stock to numerous cattle operations.
In more recent years, Houston has become a graduate of the Colorado Agriculture Rural Leadership program (CARL), served as chairman of the National Western International Committee. Aristocrat Angus Ranch continues to produce high quality registered Angus breeding stock, as well as hosting numerous tours for national and international groups and delegations.
