Digital Accessibility in

Agricultural Sciences for All

The College of Agricultural Sciences is committed to sharing our content with every person who might have a need for it. This means that when we put together materials, we want to make sure that they are designed for everyone to access. This includes both digital and physical materials.

Past practices focused on accommodating requests for accessibility, meaning people would have to retrofit their materials for different audiences. However, with modern technology and knowledge, it is now easier than ever to create your materials with accessibility in mind.

Digital Access

Making class and research materials accessible is important to ensuring everyone can participate in their education and the research that might impact them. This includes adding alt text to images, adding accessibility features to PDFs, and digitalizing physical resources. CSU and its disability resource center offer many resources that can help you prepare your materials for any and all audiences.

CSU Mission for Accessibility

In partnership with the College of Health and Human Sciences, CSU has designed standards for digital accessibility that meet and exceed the requirements of both state and federal laws. With a host of information and trainings, faculty, staff, and students alike can create accessible materials for all.

Student Disability Center

The Student Disability Center (SDC) at CSU is built to advocate for students, but also to assist faculty in making their materials accessible and understand the nuance of accessible design. With the SDC instructors can make a portal to engage with the center and understand the needs of their students each semester. Students can also use the student portal to upload documentation, request accommodations, and report barriers to access.

Getting Accommodations in CAS

At CSU, you don’t have to be alone in finding the accommodations that work for you. Here there are councilors and resources in all corners of our campus to help you find the best paths to help you succeed. We’ll work with you, your team, and our professors to ensure that you succeed in your learning journey. Explore the links below to find out more.

Access for Students

Knowing if you need accommodations or access can be challenging, but it can be even more challenging to speak up for your needs. CSU and the College of Agricultural Sciences are proud leaders in raising up all voices, because those who face challenge head on are often the inventors of innovative solutions.

Temple Grandin, a top researcher and professor at CSU, is a primary example of this. Because of her unique view, she has revolutionized the world of animal science and become one of CSU’s most prolific professors. Like Temple, we encourage students to be themselves, show up as they are, and ask for what they need to succeed.
