Professor & Head, Department of Horticulture & Landscape Architecture

The Department of Horticulture & Landscape Architecture at Colorado State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences seeks a visionary, collaborative leader to serve as Professor and Head of the department.

This tenured, 12-month position oversees a large, multidisciplinary department that integrates horticulture, environmental horticulture, and landscape architecture through teaching, research, creative scholarship, and outreach. The Head will guide strategic planning, advance academic excellence, foster partnerships, and support an inclusive, innovative departmental culture aligned with CSU’s land-grant mission.

The role requires a seasoned scholar with a terminal degree in a relevant field and a record of accomplishment commensurate with full professorship. Candidates must demonstrate strong leadership, resource management, and experience engaging industry and stakeholders to support research and outreach. Preferred qualifications include strategic planning experience, effective mentorship, strong communication skills, and the ability to lead a complex organization with transparency, equity, and fiscal responsibility.

Chief of Staff

Colorado State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences is seeking a strategic, highly organized Chief of Staff to advise and support the Dean in executing the College’s academic, research, outreach, and operational priorities. The Chief of Staff serves as the Dean’s principal strategic advisor, coordinating information, projects, and communications to ensure timely, well-informed decision-making. This role is both internally focused—managing operations, overseeing complex initiatives, supporting leadership teams—and externally engaged, representing the College with university partners, industry, and community organizations.

The position requires a seasoned leader with a master’s degree and at least ten years of progressive leadership experience in higher education or large organizations or a PhD in any field. Candidates must demonstrate strong project management skills, supervisory experience, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to lead through influence rather than authority. Preferred qualifications include experience with land-grant systems, shared governance, and strategic implementation. The ideal candidate excels at translating vision into action, navigating sensitive issues with discretion, and strengthening operational cohesion across a diverse academic enterprise.
