Agricultural Education is defined as a systematic program of instruction for students desiring to learn and educate around the science, business, and technology of agriculture, food and environmental/natural resource systems. Agricultural Education prepares students for successful careers and informed choices regarding agriculture. CSU focuses on two delivery concentrations in Agricultural Education: Teacher Development for school-based agricultural education, and Agricultural Literacy for application in non-formal and informal learning spaces.

Concentrate on What Interests You Most

We offer two degree concentration options so you can further specialize in topic areas that are most valuable to your education and career goals.

Teacher Development Concentration

This concentration focuses on credentialing teachers to deliver school-based agricultural education programming in the state of Colorado. Agricultural education programming is active in 120 secondary programs with approximately 6,000 enrolled.

Agricultural Literacy Concentration

Agricultural literacy synthesizes technical and practical agricultural knowledge to educate the public. Ag literacy professionals work in multiple educational settings including primary, secondary, and adult education.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

  • The Skills to communicate high-quality agricultural content to diverse audiences in a variety of settings about different forms of agriculture, focused on all of the departs at CSU including animal science, plant science, agricultural mechanics, natural resources, food products and processing, and agricultural business
  • How to be an effect educator
  • Hands on experience through a required internship in agricultural literacy or teacher development, also known as student teaching
