All graduates, families, guests, and faculty are invited to join us! Light refreshments will be provided. No RSVP required.

At this time, in compliance with both Larimer County public health guidance and Colorado State University, masks are required in all indoor spaces whether you are vaccinated or not. This includes all university buildings such as both commencement and commissioning locations, Moby Arena and the Lory Student Center. Participants of the ceremonies and visitors to campus must adhere to these guidelines.

Check-in and Line Up

  • Check-in: 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. North Ballroom at the Lory Student Center
  • All graduates must be checked in and lined up under the department sign for their major by 1:30 p.m.
  • Please come to the 2nd Floor Atrium of the Animal Sciences Building to complete your Walk Card during Finals Week, December 14-16, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
  • Graduates will pick up walk cards at check-in before lining up. Graduates will give walk cards to the announcer before walking across the stage.


Order your cap, gown and tassel in advance online via the commencement homepage and click Get Your Cap & Gown. The deadline for ordering regalia was Wednesday, November 3. 

Regalia Pick Up:

  • Regalia will not be shipped to students.
  • Regalia distribution is at Grad Fest; Thursday, December 16, and Friday, December 17, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • December 18: regalia will be available for pick up prior to each commencement ceremony line up, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., in the Iris & Michael Smith Alumni Center.
  • Photo ID is required for pick up.
  • Cap, Gown, Hood, and Tassel package is not a rental; the package is kept by the graduate. No returns.

Seating and Tickets

  • There is no reserved seating or distribution of tickets. As a courtesy to other guests, please do not block off rows of seats.
  • Disabled Seating/Access: There will be reserved seating for those individually who have limited mobility or are hearing impaired - plus one guest. Only one other guest may accompany the individual.

Ceremony Livestream and Recording

The event will be both live streamed and recorded, so family and friends can virtually participate in the experience. Information and links to the livestream and recordings will be available on the CSU Commencement website.

University Policy

It is illegal to bring alcoholic beverages into Moby Arena and Lory Student Center. Uniformed police officers, event staff, and faculty marshals will be in attendance when you enter the assembly area and throughout the ceremony. In accordance with Commencement policies, robes, purses, etc., may be inspected as you enter. Prohibited items are not allowed and will be confiscated. All attendees should refrain from using air horns.

Please remember. . . the College Commencement Ceremony is the capstone of your academic experience at CSU. It is a public event that reflects upon you as an individual and the College and University as a whole. Your recognition of the rights of other students and their guests to enjoy the ceremony free from disruptive or otherwise inappropriate behavior is appreciated.

Water Bottle Policy

Plastic, disposable and crushable bottles, empty and without a cap are permissible.


GradImages® provides photographers for the ceremony. Following commencement, GradImages photographers will circulate outside the commencement venue to capture additional candid photographs of our graduates with their loved ones. The GradImages staff will wear identifying vests, so they’ll be highly visible and easy to locate. Grab a representative in a vest and snap some candid shots!

Diploma Covers

Graduates receive a diploma cover at Commencement. The actual diploma will be mailed to all graduates six to eight weeks after Commencement to the address listed in ARIESweb. For those unable to attend the ceremonies, diploma covers are available in the Registrar’s Office at no charge. Please submit mailing requests to; the postage cost is $5.00 per cover for U.S. mailings.

Walking in Future Commencement Ceremonies

Recognizing the important milestone of being a part of the formal commencement ceremony, the 2020 graduates and the 2021 Spring and Summer graduates are invited to walk in any future CSU Commencement ceremony with our college.
