Dr. Martha Calvert is an east coast transplant that loves to ski and be outside. After finishing her PhD at Virginia Tech in Spring 2023, she moved to Denver, CO to develop Spur’s Sensory Lab. Martha supports various university programs including teaching, research, and extension and has years of experience studying sourdough and fermented beverages, specifically hard cider, beer, and wine.

Martha’s love of food has directly spawned her love of sensory science. She has extensive experience conducting and moderating qualitative research, executing consumer testing, leading descriptive panels, and using advanced software programs for data visualization. As a retired professional baker, she has a passion for artisan food systems and helping small- and medium-size producers. When Martha is not planning a sensory study or training her panelists, she likes to cook, ride bikes, and drink wine with her girlfriends.
